Questions
Answered honestly, including the ones with an awkward answer.
No. The Beginner Fundamentals class is capped to beginners and new white belts, and it runs five days a week. Most people in the room started within the last few months. You will not be dropped into advanced sparring on day one — or in your first month.
This is the most common reason people delay for a year, and it is backwards. Jiu-Jitsu is how you get in shape. You set your own pace in every round, you can sit out any time, and nobody is watching you. Come as you are.
Shorts without pockets or zippers, a t-shirt, a water bottle, and short fingernails. We will lend you a gi if the class needs one. Arrive about fifteen minutes early so we can show you around and get you signed in.
Jiu-Jitsu is a contact sport, so it is honest work — you will be sore. Serious injury is rare and almost always comes from ego, which is why sparring rules are enforced from the top belt down. Beginners drill and do positional sparring before they do full rounds, and tapping is treated as information, not defeat.
Memberships are month-to-month with no enrollment fee and no cancellation penalty. Current rates are listed on the pricing page. Your first class is free either way.
Two classes a week is enough to improve steadily. Three is the sweet spot for most working adults. Once a week keeps you connected but progress is slow — and we will tell you that honestly rather than sell you a plan you will not use.
It is usually the right one. There is no striking in our kids program, so nobody gets hit. Kids are grouped by age and size, they get clear stripe goals they can see progress against, and coaches teach the walk-away-first rule explicitly. Shy kids tend to be the ones the program changes most.
We are an official Renzo Gracie affiliate academy, training under the Team Bronco banner. That means our curriculum, belt standards and promotions follow the lineage rather than being invented locally, and our students can train at affiliate academies while travelling.
Yes. Any class on the timetable, no appointment needed. There are benches at the mat edge and parents watch the kids classes every day.
Fundamentals for a few weeks, then the all-levels class when it feels boring. Bring your belt — we will honour rank from a legitimate academy after a short conversation.
